The 66th Anniversary of Mines and Energy

On Wednesday, September 28, 2011 the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources held an event to commemorate the 66th Anniversary of Mines and Energy at the Gawitra Oil and Gas Museum and the Electricity Museum, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). The Gawitra Oil and Gas Museum, which was built in 1987, was created as a result of an agreement reached at the 14th IPA Annual Convention and Exhibition on October 14, 1985 and is still actively supported by member companies of the IPA. At the 35th IPA Annual Convention and Exhibition which was held recently in May 2011, the IPA also donated an "Energy edutainment" movie to the Gawitra Oil and Gas Museum to add to the existing collection of educational movies at the Museum with regard to the origins and use of energy.

With a theme of "Improving the role of the energy sector to achieve the proper management of energy and mineral resources”, this 66th Anniversary of Mines and Energy began with a flag-hoisting ceremony led by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Saleh. The event then continued with the Award presentation ceremony which included: the Energy Award, Dharma Karya Mineral Resources, and HSE Award as well as planting of trees by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Forestry, Member of Parliament, and also by the IPA President, Jim Taylor who planted a candleberry tree, a plant whose seeds can be used as a source of oil and spices.

After visiting the exhibition, the Gawitra Oil and Gas Museum and the Electricity Museum, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Saleh cut the “Tumpeng” (traditional yellow rice cone) and gave the first piece to the IPA president, Jim Taylor who reaffirmed the IPA's commitment to continue working side by side with the government to develop the oil and gas industry for the benefit of all stakeholders, especially the people of Indonesia.
