President to Open Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention

Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to open the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) convention and exhibition on May 18th, 2011. IPA President Ron Aston said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the event would be attended by 150 local and international companies.

"This year will be the largest ever in terms of participants," he said.

IPA Convention & Exhibition will be held on May 18-20th at the Jakarta Convention Centre and will carry the theme "Indonesia Energy: Growth, Security, and Sustainability."

According to Aston, there could be several oil and gas agreements to be signed during the event similar to previous years.

"But we still await the information from Oil and Gas Directorate General at Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry,” he said.

He also added that at the moment, Indonesia currently recorded a remarkable economic growth, the maturity of its producing oil fields, the focus of exploration on the abundant-but-unproven reserves at the frontier areas and the increasing efforts to unlock its unconventional gas. "These circumstances open huge investment opportunities in the oil & gas industry in Indonesia," he said.

Regarding the decreasing oil production today, Aston stated that exploration and production activities must be increased coupled with the access to appropriate technology. According to IPA Convention and Exhibition Chairman Vincent Soetedja the event will feature four sessions chaired by government officials, senior executives from the oil & gas industry, consultants and experts.

Moreover, the exhibition will feature the best products, services and solutions, the latest technology and innovations, as well as professional contractors and organizations.(*)
